June 2026 – Members of the Andean Road Countries for Science and Technology (ARCST) have been invited by the editors of the landmark volume China and Latin America for Green Development: Opportunities and Challenges to contribute three chapters to the publication. The book, now translated into Portuguese and Chinese, represents a historic milestone in South-South academic cooperation on sustainability.

In response to the book’s preface, written by Dr. Marcio Pochmann, President of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the ARCST issued a statement expressing gratitude and highlighting the significance of the collaborative effort.
Gratitude to Professor Guo Cunhai
ARCST extended special thanks to Professor Guo Cunhai for extending the invitation and for his leadership in bringing the volume to fruition. The statement noted that Professor Guo’s vision was instrumental in creating a platform where Latin American scientists could share their perspectives on promoting green development.
Diverse Perspectives for Open Dialogue
The network emphasized that the book has allowed scientists from across Latin America to share their ideas and reflections on advancing green development from critical, contextualized, and forward-looking perspectives. “The diversity of approaches, experiences, and opinions represented in our chapters not only enriches regional dialogue but also helps us remain open-minded, translate ideas into concrete actions, and, above all, promote knowledge exchange and the construction of a robust scientific culture,” the statement read.
A Historic Linguistic Achievement
ARCST members further noted that they are “especially honored to be part of the first work of its kind to be translated into both Portuguese and Chinese.” They described this linguistic accessibility as a significant step toward more horizontal, inclusive, South-South cooperation based on mutual respect and knowledge sovereignty.
