A Scholar Bridging Law, Science, and PolicyGiuseppe Poderati is a Lecturer in Italian Language and Culture at Hubei University of Economics in China, where he also serves as a researcher in environmental law and policy. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Law from Wuhan University, one of China’s premier institutions for environmental legal studies, where his doctoral dissertation examined “Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) as a Principle of International Environmental Law and Policy”.

His research has been published in prestigious international journals, including Ecocycles, Soil Security, and the International Yearbook of Soil Law and Policy, and he has contributed to the Journal of Latin American Sciences and Culture with an article on environmental law in China and the construction of an ecological civilization.

Global Academic and Professional ExperienceDr. Poderati’s academic journey is truly global. He holds an LL.M. in Asian Legal Studies from the National University of Singapore (NUS), where he worked as a postgraduate research assistant on human rights, investment, and environmental issues. He has been a visiting scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Public International Law and Comparative Law and has collaborated with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the United Nations University – Institute for Environment and Human Security.

He has completed executive education programs at the Graduate Institute in Geneva in International Advocacy and International Law, specializing in environment, energy, and natural resources. His final research on the Minamata Convention on Mercury was published in AmbienteDiritto.it. He is a Member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law, an Expert Member of Africa21.org, and a contributor to Greenreport.it and the Earth Journalism Network.

Role in ARCST and the Science Culture ConstructionAs an active member of the Andean Road Countries for Science and Technology (ARCST), Dr. Poderati serves as the ARCST Liaison Officer in Italy, promoting academic and international cooperation in science and technology. Dr. Poderati’s work aligns with ARCST’s mission to “build a collaborative and interdisciplinary platform that connects universities, research institutions, policy makers, innovators, and civil society across Latin America and beyond”.

Role at JLASC: Capacity Building EditorAs Capacity Building Editor, Dr. Poderati will lead the journal’s capacity-building initiatives to strengthen the skills and knowledge of students, researchers, and academics. His responsibilities will include:

• Curating educational content for the journal’s capacity-building hub, providing resources on environmental law, climate governance, and sustainability.
• Developing training materials and workshops to support early-career researchers and students.
• Collaborating with Section Editors to create interdisciplinary educational content that bridges law, science, and policy.
• Promoting the hub within academic and professional networks to maximize its reach and impact.
• Strengthening international engagement by leveraging his global network to connect JLASC with institutions and organizations worldwide.

Dr. Poderati’s extensive experience in environmental law, his global academic network, and his commitment to capacity building make him an ideal leader for this initiative, which reflects JLASC’s mission to promote scientific literacy and knowledge exchange for societal development (JLASC, 2026).
