July 11th, 2026 – The Journal of Latin American Sciences and Culture (JLASC) is pleased to announce the appointment of three distinguished scholars to its editorial team: Ms. Pirah Siyal as Section Editor for Environmental Sciences, Climate Change, and Sustainability., Dr. Sabrina Hasan as Associate Editor for Law, Policy, and Governance, and Mr. Joaquín Ignacio Sáez Lagos as Associate Editor for Humanities and Social Sciences. These appointments reflect the journal’s commitment to excellence and its mission to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on science, culture, and policy.
Ms. Pirah Siyal (Pakistan) – Section Editor for Environmental Sciences, Climate Change, and Sustainability
Pirah Siyal is an environmental chemist specializing in water science, climate change adaptation, and environmental and analytical chemistry. She has authored 15 peer-reviewed publications with over 300 citations, including research published in leading international journals such as Spectrochimica Acta Part A and Environmental Monitoring and Assessment.
An active contributor to global environmental governance, she has served as a Youth Delegate at COY19 and COP29 under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and at COP6 of the Minamata Convention on Mercury, convened under the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). She has completed the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) program “The Paris Agreement on Climate Change as a Development Agenda (PACCDA)”, the Women’s Leadership in Tsunami-based Disaster Risk Reduction program, and is a member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law (WCEL).
As Section Editor, she will oversee peer review, provide editorial recommendations, uphold publication ethics, and strengthen the journal’s scientific quality and international engagement.
Dr. Sabrina Hasan (Bangladesh) – Associate Editor for Law, Policy, and Governance
Dr. Sabrina Hasan is an Assistant Professor at the School of International Law, East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPL), whose work focuses on the intersection of international law, environmental policy, and maritime law. She is also serving the Bangladesh Centre for Ocean Law and Policy (BCOLP) as Deputy Director. She holds a Ph.D. in Law (Law of the Sea) from Xiamen University and has published extensively on issues of marine conservation, transboundary cooperation, and sustainable development. Her research has been featured in journals such as the Australian Journal of Maritime and Ocean Affairs.
As Associate Editor, Dr. Hasan will oversee the peer-review process for manuscripts in law, policy, and governance. She will assist in selecting qualified reviewers, make editorial recommendations, and contribute to the journal’s strategic direction by suggesting topics for special issues and promoting the journal within her professional networks.
Mr. Joaquín Ignacio Sáez Lagos (Chile) – Associate Editor for Humanities and Social Sciences
Mr. Joaquín Ignacio Sáez Lagos is a Chilean social anthropologist from the University of Chile. Holds a Master’s degree in International Studies from the Institute of International Studies at the University of Chile. Completed a Diploma in Chinese Studies at the same institution and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Political Science at Shanghai Jiao Tong University as a CSC scholarship recipient. President of Aladaa Chile (2021-2023), contributor to the project “China’s Millennium Impacts on Latin America” (2023). Author of the book Guanxi Made in Chile. Scholarship recipient of the New Energy Talents program (2023) at Sichuan University in Chengdu, China. Author of the book Guanxi Made in Chile. Young delegate at APEC Voices of the Future Lima (2024) and young speaker at the 2025 Global Young Leaders Dialogue organized by the Center for China and Globalization (CCG). Columnist for Radio Cooperativa, People’s Daily, Xinhua, and CGTN. Specializes in research on Chinese investments in Latin America, Intercultural Communication in international contexts, Gastrodiplomacy, and China-Latin America ESG strategies.
