Colombia has officially assumed the presidency of the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, marking an important moment in the country’s commitment to global environmental leadership.
At the same time, the International Green Science Center for Latin America and the Caribbean (IGSCLAC) in Colombia, which was established in 2023 is playing an important role in promoting scientific cooperation and sustainable solutions throughout the region. The center was established by the Andean Road Countries of Science and Technology (ARCST) in collaboration to Unidad Central del Valle del Cauca (UCEVA) to promote scientific research and technological development to address Latin America’s environmental challenges aligned to the new paradigm of innnovation and development known as the Science Culture Construction (SCC). Under Colombia’s leadership at COP16, IGSCLAC will continue to be a core player in the region’s efforts to achieve global biodiversity goals.
To celebrate this historic moment, the IGSCLAC released a video presenting its official logo, featuring a symbolic bird closely associated with Colombia and the IGSCLAC mission. The logo symbolizes Colombia’s rich biodiversity and represents the Center’s vision of combining science with sustainable development. This special species, native to the region, symbolizes resilience, adaptability, and a harmonious balance between nature and scientific progress.
